TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLE CRAZE
Cowabunga Dudes! I am here today to inform you of the latest groovy current market trends of action figure sales of private and public auction purchases regarding Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Toys. This is concerning action figures released from 1988 to 1996 by Playmates and Bandai. The more rare toys will be from the 1995-1996 waves, since they made fewer of them and stores were ordering less shipments for their toy department inventory.
Most of these prices I have concluded on my own. This is based on recent market trends on eBay, private sales, craigslist, and conventions from the past 2 years. The reason I am compiling this list is because most toy guides or price lists are horribly inaccurate when going against the ACTUAL sale prices of these figures. Keep in mind, “asking price is different from selling price”. The last good updated prices the Internet saw was back in 2006. It’s been a while, dudes! The links I have included mostly will say “0 results…” Keep this in mind when searching for rare toys. Search “Completed listings” or “Sold” listings to see what you just missed and how much it went for. So, Here we go:
1993 TMNT Scratch the Cat, one of the final figures to roll off the production line. Few stores ordered the last waves of TMNT toys. This one is punched with light wear on card. It is one of my white whales. One of the most valuable TMNT toys ever produced. (Which isn’t even that rare.)
MOST VALUABLE FIGURES
Some figures are considered valuable but not rare. These toys go for way over what they are worth when you compare production line numbers and shelf orders from stores…. You can thank shows like Jordan’s “The Toyhunter” on Travel Channel for Scratch the cat prices. People seem to forget about his canine friend, Hot Spot. This includes the following:
The coveted most valuable and holy grail piece of all TMNT toy collectors: 1994 Mint on Card, completely untouched TMNT Shogun Triceraton, the holy mother of all TMNT Toys. With purple weapons, of course. (The rarest).
MOST POPULAR COLLECTOR FIGURES
The list below contains the collector list most are seeking. These are your main figures everyone is trying to grab. Some are common, but some are more uncommon due to weapons, colors, and variations released by Playmates and Mirage Studios. The Japan figures were made in conjunction with Bandai. Teenage Mutant HERO Turtles were released overseas in the UK and other parts of Europe. While not rare, they are just a cool factor to us folks here in the United States.
SUPER RARE! 1994 Shogun Mike (in Gold Armor), Mint on card, light shelf wear, sticker wear on bubble, one crease on upper left corner. These toys came in Silver armor. 1 per case
Extremely rare holy grail piece directly from Mirage Studios – Peter Laird’s own TMNT UNDERCOVER LEONARDO 1994 Mint on Card Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Undercover Leo with CLOTH COAT & COIN, signed by Peter Laird.

SUPER ULTRA RARE FIGURES
Finally, the list you all been waiting for: The Top 15 “Super Ultra Mega Turbo Rare” List of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. You will very rarely find these on auction sites or at a garage or estate sale. There’s not many left around anymore out in the market. Most likely the remaining ones are in Peter Laird’s basement or someone’s deceased loved ones’ attic crawlspace. You should try and hunt these down like it were the cure for Cancer:
Another Holy Grail Piece. 1988 Wave 1, Rubber soft head Original April O’Neil with no Press Pass, No stripes, Mint on card. Extremely rare to find an unpainted one with no press pass at all, let alone mint on card.
I hope you enjoy this list. You may or may not agree to it, but this is from my research and my collection. Please leave a comment if you’d like to weigh in.

TMNT #1 Second Printing. Peter Laird’s personal copy from the Mirage Studios Archives. Mirage Studios, 1984. Signed and Sketched by both creators, Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman.
I’ve been collecting for many years. My comic collection is somewhat a scattered one of various titles and publishers. My most complete collections are Amazing Spider-man, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Superman, and Walking Dead. All others can be considered hobby reading or investment collecting. In the past 10 years however, the turtles collection has gotten serious. With that said, it’s become my primary focus of collecting in the past 2-3 years. You can burn all my other stuff, but Turtles and Spider-man would have to be buried with me, or sold for a fortune to benefit my wife and only son.
The Turtles collection has gotten much more valuable with the recent additions from Mirage Studios’ eBay account, and Kevin Eastman Studios Fan Club. Because of these 2 operating headquarters, I’ve been able to snag super rare gems, signed by the co-creators of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman. Mirage Studios is closing their doors and winding down operations in the past 5 years as everything was placed under acquisition from Nickelodeon and Kevin Eastman/IDW.
With the rapidly growing wave of popularity sweeping through the current IDW comics and the new hit cartoon on Nickelodeon, vintage 1984 Mirage Studios B&W turtles comics and 1988 Playmates action figures are rising FAST. Toy auction prices in 2010 are now DOUBLE in 2016. TMNT Scratch action figure from 1993 would sell for $200 loose and $600 carded in 2010. Now, on ebay as you read this, an ungraded carded Scratch goes for astronomical prices in the $1100-$1400 range now. He’s not even that rare! The real rare toys are the Shogun Triceraton, Undercover Leo with cloth trench coat and gold coin, or the original soft head 1988 turtles with the fan club inserts.
